Breast Augmentation

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR BREAST AUGMENTATION PROCEDURE

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance or enlarge natural breast size and shape through the use of a saline filled or silicone-gel filled implant. Most often, it is sought by women who, for personal reasons, feel that their breasts are too small. It can also improve the slight drooping that frequently comes as a result of pregnancy, fluctuations in weight, gravity and natural aging. For some women, breast augmentation is sought to correct a noticeable difference in size between the two breasts.

Once the breasts have stopped developing, breast augmentation can be performed at any time. The most satisfied breast enlargement patients are those who want the operation for themselves, as a means of achieving a realistic degree of improvement, not perfection, in body contour. The end result is an increased sense of femininity and greater self confidence.

The particular size and style of breast implant used depends upon the diameter of your chest, your body height and weight and personal preference. One advantage of the saline filled implant is that if the implant is ruptured, the saline (salt water) is absorbed into your body. The primary disadvantage to the saline filled implant is that it is more likely to show ripples through the breast tissue. This is especially true for very thin women and women seeking reconstruction, since they have very little breast tissue to cover the implant. After 14 years off the market for any use other than reconstruction breast surgery, silicone gel-filled implants were approved by the FDA in 2006 for patients over the age of 22. After years of study, it was ruled that they are not harmful. And, the good news is that they look and feel more natural than saline filled implants.Your Board Certified Surgeon at 63 Laser & Skin Clinic will discuss all his history in using both saline filled and silicon gel-filled implants during your free consultation.

Breast Lift

About breast lift (mastopexy)

A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure to raise drooping breasts and reduce the size of an enlarged areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. In most cases, the procedure is done in conjunction with saline or silicone-gel filled implants to add firmness and projection to the breasts. Without the insertion of an implant to add fullness, the breast can still droop; it merely does so higher on the chest. Likewise, attempting to correct a significantly sagging breast using an implant alone, without removing breast skin or elevating the nipple, would be like putting a ball in a sock.

Breast life surgery is most often considered by women in their late 30s to early 50s who desire firmer, shapelier and more youthful looking breasts. The ideal candidate is a woman who wants the operation for herself to counter the affects that pregnancy, nursing, weight fluctuation, gravity and/or natural aging have had on the appearance of her breast. A women’s self esteem is often a large factor considered when choosing any cosmetic procedure.

Female Breast Reduction

About female breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty)

Female breast reduction is a surgical procedure to reduce and reshape large, pendulous breasts. Women with large breasts can suffer from physical health problems including chronic back and neck pain, poor posture, skin irritation, shoulder scarring and breathing difficulties. In addition to correcting physical health problems, breast reduction can also improve the ability to exercise, which often leads to a lifetime of better weight management.

Once the breasts have stopped developing, breast reduction can be performed at any time. Young girls with very large breasts may seek to have the procedure even before their breasts are fully developed to alleviate severe emotional stress. If breast reduction is performed too early in development, a second procedure may be necessary later. Liposuction may be a better alternative for women looking for moderate reduction when they have more fatty tissue than glandular tissue as well as good skin tone and nipple placement.
